The date is the date
A ship date agreed a month ahead is a commitment, not an intention. We built our own production software specifically so that a busy month cannot quietly become a skipped month.
About
Blue Ocean Strategies is Brandon Ostfeld and a tight bench of writers, designers and print partners. There is no account-management layer, because the layer is the thing clients keep telling us they left their last agency to escape.
It started in college with an idea and none of the qualifications for it. Brandon called Max Martin — a computer science student and a friend since childhood — and the two of them spent well over a year taking apart what actually worked for small businesses instead of what the industry said should. They landed on email and newsletters, because that is where the honest arithmetic was: the people who already know you are cheaper to reach and far likelier to say yes than the strangers everyone else was bidding for.
The hard part was never the writing. It was month four — the month a busy practice quietly stops keeping the promise, because production is genuinely difficult when a real week gets in the way. So we built our own software for it. The layout, proofing and build of an issue run on a system we wrote ourselves, which is why the date on the calendar is the date it ships and not an aspiration.
If you want a big agency, there are good ones and we will happily name a couple. If you want the person doing the work to be the person who answers when you call, that is this.

On the record
No client results dressed up as ours, no invented headcount. These are the numbers we can show you.

A few of them. Every issue in the library on this site opens in full — you can read the pages, not just the covers.
How we behave
Four of them, written down because they are the things clients find out about us in month four rather than week one.
A ship date agreed a month ahead is a commitment, not an intention. We built our own production software specifically so that a busy month cannot quietly become a skipped month.
If your ad budget is too small to gather honest data, if the channel is wrong for your practice, or if the cheaper option would genuinely serve you better — you will hear it. Selling someone work that will not perform buys one invoice and loses a client.
Every statistic on this site names its source, and none of them are dressed up as our clients' results. We will not promise you a lead count before we have seen your market.
We will show you our work. We will not tell you what another client pays, hand out their contact details, or use your material anywhere you have not agreed to.
The month itself — plan, produce, send, report — is set out step by step on the home page
The founder
FounderBrandon runs the strategy, writes the plans and is the person on the other end of the phone. He also built the production system the newsletters are made on, which is an unusual thing for the founder of a marketing agency to have done and is the reason the schedule holds.
Talk to BrandonSend a short note about the practice and what is — or is not — happening with your marketing. Brandon reads every one of these himself and will tell you straight whether we are a fit.
No pitch deck, no discovery-call gauntlet. One conversation, and a straight answer.
