Privacy policy

This policy covers Blue Ocean Strategies LLC (“we”, “us”) and this website. It is short because what we do with your information is short: we use it to answer you, and if you become a client, to do the work you are paying for. That is the whole arrangement.

What we collect

If you fill in the contact form, we receive what you typed into it: your name, your email address, and — if you chose to give them — your phone number, the name of your firm or business, a rough budget range, which services you ticked as interesting, how you heard about us, and your message. Nothing on that form is collected without you typing it, and only your name, email and message are required.

If you email us directly, we have whatever is in your email, including your address and anything attached to it.

Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs — IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time — the way every web server does. We do not use those logs to build a profile of you, and we do not connect them to your inquiry.

If you become a client, we will hold the working information the job needs: billing details, brand assets, the contents of your mailing list, approvals and drafts. That material is handled under your client agreement as well as this policy, and it is never mixed with another client’s.

Why we collect it

Two reasons, and only two. First, to reply to your inquiry and have a sensible conversation about whether we can help — which is why we ask about budget and services rather than guessing. Second, if you go on to become a client, to run the work: to produce and send your campaigns, to invoice you, and to keep our own records of what we did and when.

What we do not do

We do not sell your information. We do not rent it, trade it, or hand it to a data broker, a lead marketplace, or a partner agency. There is no arrangement of that kind behind this site and there never has been.

We do not add people who inquire to a marketing list. Sending us a message does not subscribe you to anything and does not start an automated sequence. If you want our newsletter, you have to ask for it, and you can leave it in one click at any time.

Who else handles it

To run the business at all we use a small number of third-party services, and your information passes through them. In categories, they are: the platform that hosts this website and its servers (Vercel); a transactional email service that carries messages between us; and a CRM and email-marketing platform where client and inquiry records are kept. For clients we also use a print-and-mail production partner, a payment processor, and standard business software for accounting and file storage.

Each of these is used because the work needs it, not to enrich or resell your data. We are not in a position to audit their internal security, and we are not going to claim certifications on their behalf or on ours — what we can tell you is which ones we use and why, and we will answer that question directly if you ask.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim. We will tell you if that happens unless we are prohibited from doing so.

Cookies and tracking

The public pages of this site set no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies of their own. There is no Google Analytics tag, no advertising pixel, no session recorder and no third-party chat widget on these pages. The fonts are served from this domain rather than fetched from a font provider, so loading a page here does not announce your visit to anyone else.

There are two small exceptions, and both are worth stating plainly. The site reads a display-theme preference from your own browser’s local storage if one is already there, so that a dark or light choice is respected; it is stored on your device, it contains nothing but the word “light” or “dark”, and it is never sent to us. Separately, the staff sign-in area of this domain sets one sign-in cookie — that is for our own team, it is not set by any page on the public site, and you will never encounter it as a visitor.

Because we set no advertising or analytics cookies here, there is no consent banner to dismiss. If that ever changes, this section changes with it and the date at the top of the page moves.

How long we keep it

Inquiries that do not turn into work are kept for about two years and then deleted, so that we can pick up the thread if you come back to us later. Ask us to delete yours sooner and we will, without asking why.

Client records are kept for the length of the engagement and for a period afterwards — generally seven years for anything with a financial or contractual dimension, because tax and record-keeping rules require it. Working material we no longer need, such as old drafts and source files, is cleared out earlier.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have a formal right to see what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to receive a copy of it, and to object to certain uses of it. We would rather not stand on where you happen to live: ask us and we will do it either way.

Ask through the contact form and say what you want done. We will confirm we have received it, may ask one question to be sure you are who you say you are, and will complete the request within thirty days. There is no charge and no form to fill in.

Children

This is a business-to-business service. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen. If you believe a child has sent us something, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. Where the change is significant and affects people who have already inquired or are already clients, we will say so directly rather than relying on you to re-read the page.
